25 years and still going strong.
Another good season is predicted as bookings are up on last year. The management say that according to feedback from customers this success is due to value for money.
For the past few years a major boost for tourism was due to Jim White German tours, which brings more than 12000 visitors annually.
Other visitors include David Urquhert travel, Caledonian Travel, CIE tours, Dessie Lynch Tours, Ulster Bus tours to mention but a few.
Bus tours now provide near 40% of the market as new tour operators are coming on stream.
Ionad Cois Locha provides activities for children and families which include cottage tours (demonstrations of carding spinning and weaving) play-areas which include paddloes, canoes, bouncy castle, climbing wall, rodeo bull and train rides along the lakeside with the new addition of the water zorb balls which have proved exceptionally popular with both children and adults alike.
Ionad Cois Locha provides keenly priced Restaurant/Tea Rooms facilities and full Sunday Lunches are available.
The Boat Trip always proves to be very popular with all age groups. The story is told about how the Poison Glen got its name, where the haunted house of Dunlewey is and the Green Lady that has appeared there occasionally. The Fairy Rath can also be seen, this is where the last known sightings of the fairies in Dunlewey is. The history of the old church is also told on board the Grainne Rose. The Crannóg can be seen – this is where people took shelter from wild animals to get a good night sleep.
The Centre is very popular with school tours which are educational and entertaining for children.
As an acknowledgment of our 25 years in business we will be opening with several different events on Saturday 4th April such as Car & Tractor Show, Easter Arts & Crafts for the Children and many Prizes to be won. In Addition to this The Wild Atlantic Equestrian Centre will also be opening offering Pony rides, Enchanted Forrest Rides, Trekking and Horse Riding Lessons.
